What is the currency in Zanzibar?
The official currency in Zanzibar is the Tanzanian Shilling.
Although the shilling is the main currency on the island, US dollars are also accepted in many places, so it's always a good idea to carry a modest amount of small bills with you. The only ATM on Zanzibar is located in Stone Town, so be sure to stock up on cash while you're there. Credit cards are accepted in larger establishments, but don't rely on them and always check that you can pay by card before making purchases in stores, restaurants and hotels.
