The official currency in Zanzibar is the Tanzanian Shilling.

Although the shilling is the main currency on the island, US dollars are also accepted in many places, so it's always a good idea to carry a modest amount of small bills with you. The only ATM on Zanzibar is located in Stone Town, so be sure to stock up on cash while you're there.
